    94-96 Factory Inspection Markings.

Bill Lucia started this discussion by noting the white factory inspection marking shown on page 168 of the 94-96 Judging Manual.
This white slash can be seen at the top of the first label.
Joe stated that this marking was on his early build 1994 and I also have this inspection mark on my early build 1995.
We are looking for any input concerning additional factory inspection markings.
Would appreciate photos if possible. If you have a 94-96, please go out and look at the Air Compressor Labels and see if you have the white slash mark. If you do, please give us a build date. Also shown is the factory inspection marking on the air condition hose which is yellow in color

Keith, thanks for the response. The white chalk mark on the compressor label was not on there very good. Look like just a swipe with the chalk. Yours could have easily come off with the passage of time.

Your remarks about the yellow marking on the air conditioning hose will help with the information for our database.

      Thanks again

Charlie, here's photos of the mark on my June built 96's air conditioner hose (it's much more gold colored than canary yellow), a canary yellow mark on one of my fuel lines (line to the left, just above where the metal mesh ends), and one of my compressor label which seems to show no white chalk marks.

          Pat, thanks for the photos.
Not being very good at this, I tried to copy the photos to my database without success.
Could you send me the photos to my email address, fulassoc@comcast.net.

Also I am attaching sequence numbers that are located on the 94-96. These would also fall under Factory Markings.

The sequence number for my 1995 Corvette is found on the build sheet. My number was 139.

The numbers ares located on the spare tire, last two numbers, up under the rear on the ABS, full three numbers and under the air cleaner, last two numbers, Note the difference in color marker used.

No problem, I'll send the photos shortly. Normally, you can right-click on an open photo in someone's post, select "save picture as", and then re-name and download it.

My sequence number is 603, and it's in the same places as your first two photos, as well as the bottom of one of my shocks that you can only see with it extended with no load on it. Cool stuff.

Pat, thanks for the tip. I just followed your instructions and saved them to my database.

What shock did you find the sequence number?

Pat, when I went to look at the photos, they were very small. I tried to enlarge them but system said I couldn't.

Back to square one-please send by email.

                Thanks

                  Just sent them Charlie.

I found a sequence number under my front driver's side shock, with the numbers facing the rear of the car. I just used a mirror and can see it, and I'll post a pic when my camera's recharged.

Other interesting numbers I recently discovered are found in the inner folds of my soft top. The only time you can see them is when you pick up the back/bottom of the top (like you're beginning the process of putting the top down), and in a fold are the characters "(what looks like a small triangle) M 96 16". Ever heard of this before?

                      Re: 94-96 Factory Inspection Markings.

Charlie check these out, first shows partial "03" reversed in the mirror of my 603 number under the front left shock, second shows the very well hidden characters in the soft top folds.

And like Terry, I also have a sequence number and/or position markings (like "RF" for right front) written on the inner part of the wheels in what looks like green Marks-a-Lot. They are faded and barely readable now.

                        Re: 94-96 Factory Inspection Markings.

During the 1990 build I had several chances to be at the plant in Bowling Green. I remember a dot of bright green paint on each road tire. It was applied by the machine that tightened the lug nuts. I was told it was to indicate the lug nuts had been tightened to the proper torque.

I am not sure how long that practice continued, but it made an arresting sight of all the cars hanging on the line all with the bright green dots on the tire.

By 2008 the cars sequence number (four digits) was stenciled on the outside of the left front and the inside of the right rear tire. Each tire also had a tag with the sequence number on it attached to the valve stem. Probably too new for you guys, but it might give you some additional ideas on where to look.

Dave, have you ever seen a code similar to the one shown inside my soft top, and do you have any idea what it means?

Folks, thanks for all the input. I will collect this information for reference.

Pat, I have no idea what your markings are on the soft top.

                            Thanks again for the input.

Anybody else out there is welcome to add their comments.

Darnit, I gave you something else to trip up us C4 guys with, huh?

The code is actually "96 16" so that makes it a little closer to my June build date, perhaps the second week of May?

I only recently discovered this code by accident. Normally when you pick up the back/bottom of the top, first, you aren't looking for anything inside, and second because it's in a dark, moving, fold that's open only briefly you don't see it. But one day I happened to be in the process of cleaning the inside of my back glass and was spending a lot of time moving the top up and down to try to get at the inside glass the best way I could. Also, my garage door was open and it was very sunny and bright. As I moved it up and down slowly I saw something and thought, "what the heck is that", got a flashlight and saw it for the first time in 16 years.

I have the JG and have previously tried to figure out my glass date using the "Code Buster", but I found the system confusing. I'll try again at lunch and let you know what I find.

                              Regards, Pat
