On a 1990-95 ZR-1 the black filter with silver label (no bar code) should the label be right side up when installed opening down? i have seen filters with the label both way any help?

From what I can remember, you could read the label upright when the filter was installed on the engine.Tom Hendricks

I am looking at the one on my 93 ZR-1 (VIN # 00384). It is right side up on the engine, upside down while holding it where the mounting threads are visible. Also the word Duraguard is not present on the lable. All black oil filters were installed on all LT-5 motors by Nov 1993. That was the date the last LT-5 was produced by Mercury Marine, crated, and shipped to Bowling Green.- Top

I have the original black filter off my 92' ZR-1 (#489) built 6-92, the lable is upside down when installed on the engine.- Top
