Non recomended exterior/interior Corvettes only need the zone approval & not a COPO. I have a 1985 that has one ordered from a dealer in IN. COPO only means it was NOT ordered from a dealer but directly from GM office.

Re: Looks like a real '67 COPO coming up for auction today

Being a member of this board has turned me into more of a skeptic than I was beforehand, which was 8 out of 10 according to my wife (BTW, I think that's a good thing). I notice the wheels are different from the auto show pictures. If one of the important things about this car is its auto show heritage, wouldn't one try to make it look like it did?

I'll assume there is more documentation than what has been presented so I'll put my opinion on hold. I guess the bidding will show whether it is what it is proported to be. I wonder what the trim tag says?

Well, this must have been the real deal, sold at $525K, and apparently the tank sticker shows rally wheels with white walls, not the bolt-on knock-offs in the photo.

Very cool. I guess I'll take my wife's advice and turn down the skepticism.

Can't imagine anyone paying $525K for a car whose only provenance is having been in an auto show; that color/trim combination didn't require a COPO - just a trim override, approved at the Zone level. Zone budget must have been tight that year (no radio).

I am driving the Inferno Orange 2011 Z06 pictured below on the right from last year's Greater New York Auto Show. Maybe it will be in an auction 40 years from now.

How about the "possibility" that COPO meant something different 18 years prior? The concept also reverses - a video of 1978 frame assembly does NOT mean that it was the same in 1961.....

Perhaps the dealer saw this ad and desided to put one of those newfangled 8-Tracks in it.
