    New bottom window seal-1960

I purchased new bottom rubber seals from Corvette Central and installed them with difficulty. Their instructions talked about t******* part of the seal, but I could not understand what needed to be trimmed. The seal design prevents the glass from seating any further than about 50% into the channel. Is this deep enough?

I had to use bar clamps to squeeze the frame/glass down into the channel so I could insert the screws on the window frame. I am not confident that I installed the new seal correctly, but maybe there is only one way that is goes on. The seal has a wide "lip" and narrow "lip" and I installed the wide "lip" on the outside edge of the window. Is this correct?

The first attached photo shows the depth of the glass in the channel and the second photo shows the outside edge of the window unit with the wide lip on the outside.

This is what the original seal looks like on the passenger window of my '59. (The driver side channel is broken off and gone.)

I've seen some sold as rubber and cork... what is correct for that seal?

It looks like the original seal on Bill's 1959 is all rubber.

Does anyone know if they ever used cork, or was it always rubber with C1s? It's not judged, so I'm wondering what is correct...

I have just removed my 57. It is rubber, driver side was not in bad shape (not original door), but the pass side, which I believe was original, was also rubber but so bad that it broke in pieces getting it out. At first I thought it was plastic, but it is just totally hosed rubber. My metal channels look pretty good - needs much cleaning, but condition looks like Joe's pic - no where near as bad as Bill's photo shows. Appears that 57 and 60 are very similar design - if not the same.

I also have bought replacement rubbers from CC, but not tried to install them yet. Much cleaning and re-furb to do yet. Mine is power windows so that is going to be another challenge. Difficult but not impossible to get apart. We'll see how difficult it is going to be to re-install. Archive info on this indicates that it is going to be a challenge. -Dan-
