I am not getting low or medium blower speeds out of my blower. What are the things I should check. thanks Harry

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
Harrry, check the connections at the blower resistor. The resistor is used to cut down the speeds of the blower motor.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
I checked the electrical connections and found that at my Relay the purple wire has no electric when connected. It is the wire that connects to the capacitor on the Blower. When I jumped one of the live connectors to the one that was dead, the low and medium blower speeds worked. Do you think the problem is the Relay? My high speed works well. thanks Dutch- Top

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
Harry, When you switch the fan speed to high speed the resistor is by-passed and the relay is on. on lower speeds the resistor is used to cut the speed down. Alot of the time if you unplug the connections you may find that the problem is one of the heavier wires(Red, Orange, Purple) which carry the current has heated up the connector and is no longer making contact.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
I used my light probe and the purple wire on the relay makes no connection. Will the relay fix that or could it be the capacitor at the blower. A couple times I wiggled the connections at the relay and the lower speeds worked until I turned it off, and then it would not come back on. looking for a fix Harry- Top

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
Harry it sounds like your onto something when wiggling the wires this is indicating a connector problem or the relay. Try tapping the relay with a screwdriver handle and see if this gets the blower working. Keep in mind that a lose connector may also cause everything to start working when tapping the relay.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 1966 heater & a/c blower
I again jiggled the wires on the blower relay until I got the medium speed to start. The medium and low speeds worked good. As soon as I turned the fan on the high speed and turned it off, the low and medium speeds would not come on. I did hit the relay with a screw driver. Does this sound like a bad Relay? Dutch- Top

I apologize in advance for opening up such an old thread, but did you ever resolve your low & medium blower motor issue? If so, what did you find to be the problem. A friend is having the same issue with his '65.
Thanks,Leif
