    Radiator expansion tank for 1957.

I realize that the 57 did not come with an expansion tank for the radiator. However, I and I am sure many others have had the same problem with dumping coolant overboard and then heating up the next day. Has anyone found a suitable expansion tank that you can retro fit to the 57. I see the ads for the 61 tank but is there another one that has been used? I have one that I salvaged years ago but I cannot find a place to mount it. The air duct is in the way, or the battery sits below, the tank is too tall, etc. Any and all recommendations are appreciated. This hot summer has really told me the need for one.

What you are referring to is called a "coolant recovery tank", and it is not pressurized. The overflow hose connects to it rather than just being routed to somewhere near the bottom of the car. Various shapes and sizes are available, and it can be mounted virtually anywhere in the engine compartment.

When installed there is no need for expansion space in the pressurized part of the system, so you can fill the radiator to the top or leave some expansion space. Either way will work.

The capacity should be at least one quart, but two is better.
