    A/C Roadster Vent Cable Question

I am trying to sort out the a/c in my 65 roadster. I believe that Bubba was there b4 me. There is only 1 vent cable under dash. It's mounted to the right and I don't know where it goes. should it be on the left side and go to the left vent? Is there not supposed to be a right underdash vent cable in an ac car?

I removed the glove box to look at the to of the heater box, and saw a cable that was not terminated, just sitting there. It came from the air knob of the ac cluster of 4 knobs. Does this hook up to the lower right vent?

    Thanks for any help

    Myron,

I have a 66, so assuming they are somewhat the same... Left vent is controlled by the vent knob under the instrument cluster to the right of the steering column. Right vent is controlled by the Fan/Vent knob (lower left of the four knobs on the center of the dash surrounding the clock). The AC/Heater vacuum switch (located on top of the air box just behind the glove box) is controlled by the Hot/Cold switch (upper right of the four knobs on the center of the dash). Sounds like your unconnected cable is associated with the vacuum switch (which I just rebuilt as it was leaking).

Assembly manuals are good for these sorts of things, but hope this gives you something to start with as others chime in.

    Cheers!

Actually the a/c heater vacuum switch is missing but the cable is connected to the top of the air box.

The cable not terminated should go to the right hand vent. It is connected to the lower left fan/vent knob. The cable appears to be too short. Can you tell me the correct routing. Is it possible that the cable is too short?

Here is a picture of my vent cable. It follows the bottom rail and is then retained by a bracket in front of the air vent.

Thanks for the picture. Seems like my cable is about 4 or 5 " shorter than it needs to be. Any ideas? It does not look like these cables are available for a/c cars.

            Myron,

Enclosed is another picture for your review. As you can see the cable has a formed ring or O that fits over a post on the vent door. i cannot see from your picture if this ring is there.

The grill is removed as I was replacing the gasket on the door

Yes, mine has the bracket and formed ring. The whole cable just seems short. There is no way that I can get it to reach the post on the vent door.

I can't imagine that somebody purposely put in a short cable (e.g., replaced it with something equivalent like the ac/heat cable) - but stranger things have happened. I can imagine that somebody tried to get it out of the way and pulled back on the cable.

Anyone know the correct length of these cables? I assume the ac heat cable is shorter? what is it's length?

I have a factory AC car and also wonder how the passenger side vent door are operated?
There should be a thread here in the technical forum with just ac questions and answers and with a lot of pictures

It's around 34", plus or minus. Hard to measure exact distance since I didn't have a fabric tape measure to get around the initial bend from the center dash easily, so there is a bit of approximation in my number.
