Removing S/S Moldings from top of 1960 Glove Box or Seat Divider

I want to remove the short s/s moldings above the glove box lid to polish them. I did this once before and it was almost impossible to pull the moldings away from the clips. My clips are held in place with 4 screws; visible looking behind the deck lid release button. I pried them off last time with a thin putty knife, but it chipped paint and one clip never released and I had to slide the molding off and that scratched the paint. There is no place to insert something to pry them off the clips without chipping paint beside the clip.

What is the best way to remove the s/s moldings from the clips?

I believe my clips were rusted and that may be why the moldings are not easy to pop off the clips.

I removed them with a thin plastic putty knife, polished them and popped them back into place; no problem.
