66 auto console removal

It appears to remove the console trim on the 66 with automatic transmission you unscrew the chrome detent button and the black shift knob and then the console can be lifted off over the shift lever? If true is there anything that you need to watch for, springs, pins, shafts, alignments etc.
Is there anything special to watch for during reassembly? Seems simple, but never had an auto shift handle apart.

I don't believe there is anything to watch for on the shifter. After you remove the shifter button and the console screws, as you raise the console up you will need to move the shifter lever toward the rear of the car as far as possible in order to be able to get the console moved back from the center dash far enough to get it raised enough to get over the shifter.

Will do. I've had 4-spds apart many times but never an auto. Sounds very straight forward.

Richard.the only thing to watch for when taking off the black shifter knob is the chrome button and a spring under it,not a lot of tennsion on it so it should not go flying on you.lots of luck.
