Oil leak in Fuel Pump area Ideas?

On my 66 L79 (car is a driver), Last year, I needed to replace the fuel pump.

The Fuel Pump area was soaked with Engine Oil Residue, along with droplets on the bottom of the pump itself, frame and steering linkage.

I looked over everything, cleaned everything up, install a new pump, gasket with silicone both sides.

Also changed my Valve cover gaskets, just in case they were leaking, but didn't look like it.

After a year, again Oil all over that area.

I have looked at other L79 cars and noticed that most have the same issue. Oil everywhere in this area

is this a fuel pump to block mating issue? as my Valve cover gaskets look good and clean.

    Thoughts?

Is there Permatex/sealer on the bolt that has access to the fuel pump rod?

There is a metal plate between the fuel pump and the block. That metal plate should have a bit of sealant around the edge where it touches the block. If not you can get an oil leak. Clean the area, loosen the fuel pump and get some sealant in that area then re-tighten the bolts.

Or, just try re-torquing the bolts to the proper torque. If they are loose that might fix the problem also.

You might want to check that the front crank seal in the timing cover isn't leaking. I had the same symptoms as you but for me, it was the seal....

          Great ideas and good points.

Forgot to add that, yes there is the metal plate between the pump and block, used Permatex on both and gaskets.

Good point about the Bolt that has access to the fuel pump rod, can't remember if I did put any sealer on that. Will take it out and redo just to be safe.

I didn't check the front crank closely, but another area to look at.

Looks like I will be pulling the Fuel pump and starting over this weekend. It's such a tight area to get into. I remember, fighting to get the bolts started and tightened, even with the Fuel Pump Cam Rod held in the up position.

          Thanks all, much appreciated.

Anything else to check or tips to install?

I had the same issue with my '64 327/300 engine this spring. When I replaced the fuel pump I replaced the gasket between the block and the fuel pump mating steel plate I used Permatex Form-A-Gasket between all mating surfaces and this solved the problem.

make sure the oil drain back hole in the block below the fuel pump push rod is open. this is the oil return passage for oil that come dowm the fuel pump push rod

I had this problem with my 64 327/365 coupe. Someone said when the fuel pump leaks it gets gas in the oil. Does the happen?
