This gentlemen is a long time member, it was the first car he ever presented for judging, he has since presented it for judging with a NY state issued VIN, acquired after finding out about the non GM issued VIN plate during his first judging attempt.

I see many of posts on this forum regarding the correctness of engine pad stamps, but I can't say I've seen one regarding the originality of the VIN tag. I'd be surprised if Ernst knew the nuances of the VIN tag, and besides the effort to verify VIN tag to title/registration to engine pad stamp, I'm sure he verified that it was there and matched the others. I cannot give fault to a man who seems to take projects and turn them into beauties for others to possibly enjoy in the future. I would consider a man like that an asset to this organization.

Anyone who has bought and sold Corvettes (or any other car) is familiar with state issued vin tags.
Sometimes issued in place of a lost vin tag, sometomes for a theft recovery and a few other situations.
Ernst is blowing smoke for his implied ignorance...
No excuse for a fraudulent vehicle.

So, this individual has been a long-time member - did he ask for anyone such as yourself to vlaidate/verify the car? We always caution folks when it comes to high-dollar cars, which I would consider a 427 to be - correct?

And, again when did the VIN tag get changed? Was Ellis the one who washed the GA title? No one has been able to tell us that. Ernst said he had an investigator look into the car, so when was the title washed to represent the "alleged" fradulent VIN tag?

In support of what Roy stated this member presented said car for judging at our chapter meet in Western New York Chapter. I'm the WNY Chapter judging chairman. I contacted Roy about the issues mentioned prior to acceptance for flight judging. My concern was weather or not if the car contained any "real VIN stamping" from which we could verify build time or it's placement sequence, body build, early, late, etc for verification of other parts of the car. As we found the engine pad was no help being it was a stamper. The rear frame stamping was not clear to read. Tranny stamping characters could be real but definitely did not match engine pad characters. It is my opinion that only the tranny verifies the original GM VIN of this car.

As Roy pointed out a car as this is not easy to verify from a judging point of view nor is it pleasant for the owner. The presented car as of the day of flight judging is far from a "high dollar flip" as some have speculated.

So, what award did the car attain at the Chapter meet with the NY-issued VIN? Reason I ask, in the post you state there were problems and it now appears it was a NOM 427, correct? Should have been danger-sign and RUN, Forest, RUN rather than the purchase?????
