What size screws are used to attatch the frame to the license bracket on the bumper. Also, I can't seem to figure out how the NCRS plate goes inside the bracket.

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
The stainless license plate frame is secured to the license plate by the spring retainer at each end of the license frame; it isn't attached to the license plate bracket that's bolted to the center bumper bar. The only screws involved are those that attach the license plate to the black bracket.- Top

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
The part number is on all factory frames. It is also on some of the higher quality repop frames (I have one of these). From what I've been told the big difference is in the shape of the spring retainer and the rivet that attaches the spring to the frame.

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
The original license frame is a magnetic stainless and the rivet is stainless too. Replacements I know of are non magnetic (actually a better grade stainless) and the rivets are aluminum or steel. I have not paid attention to the securing springs so I can't comment on those.
But just looks wise I can't see any differences. Except the rivet material is easy to discern. I never deduct anything for magnetic properties since that does not fall under our judging standard word "appears". Appears is visual. I have had judges deduct a point for magnetic properties. I roll my eyes and say ok. It just seems a little extreme to use a magnet when one can't tell the difference by just looking at it. But that's life........- Top

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
Which supplier has the correct frames? LIC indicates Correct Stainless that is not magnetic. Paragon just indicates Correct stainless.
Anyway, I lost points on mine, they were magnetic but not stainless.
Thanks

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
I'm trying to find the license plate frames in the AIM manual, but can't. I assume they weren't actually installed at the factory since there were no plates on the cars.
The reason I was looking in the AIM is trying to label all my restoration parts with info that includes the AIM reference.
But it gets me to thinking, is it a point deduction if they are one the car at judging?
I'm relatively new to Corvette restoration and the judging process and working on a '65 Coupe that I ultimately want to get judged when I'm finished.- Top

Are dealer frames acceptable here? I have some old ones from Guaranty Chevrolet in San Diego that came on one of mine.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
The frame is stainless and magnetic but the spring and rivet are wrong - could be that someone snapped the spring and replaced as the rivet looks quite fresh or been fitted over the last 15 years

Re: 1965 Front Licence Plate Frame
Keith, I have the same spring and rivet as in your picture. I bought this last year and they were still unopened in the GM package with part# 1#3797485 on both. The spring on both of mine and yours is the same square on the outside end not slightly rounded like the picture Bill showed. Could these be GM nos frames and not reworked ?
Thanks Greg- Top
