I was hoping someone knew about it, if it is the "real deal" or not.

Guys here is a perfect example of why every auction house in the nation should follow the example set by Barrett-Jackson and verify anything that mentions NCRS.

This purported L88 claims one of three which we all know you can’t prove, then it goes on to say NCRS “Verified” what the h ll does that mean?

NCRS has no record of judging, performing a Shipping Data Report , or performing a Document Validation Service on any 1968 corvette ending in 28356. That may not be the correct VIN because again we all know that 194678SR28356 is not a correct corvette VIN either.

Barrett-Jackson now goes one step further and has requested NCRS to validate GM issued paper present at their auction, if NCRS cannot validate the paper Barett-Jackson gives the owner the option of labeling the paper reproduction or removing it from the presentation on the car.

This vehicle is proof that NCRS should consider some type of restriction or procedure an auction house must follow before using the name NCRS in any claim or presentation.

They are using the name NCRS to further the values of this car it appears without any supporting documents from NCRS. Again this assumes they have listed the correct last five of the VIN, we know the rest of it has an error.

If "Freshend up by Tim Thorpe" is correct ??? Tim should have seen enough C3 L88's to know if it were legit or not.

while I have no interest in potential purchase - if anyone on the forum does they might give Tim a call and gage his reaction

That is why I ask if anyone here knew of this Corvette. Would it not be fraud to claim a Corvette to be NCRS judged when it is not? This reminds me of the Black/Red 67 435 that was being sold & had a BAD repo tank sticker/Trim tag. The guy had the aged repo sticker stuck to a piece of a gas tank that looked brand new & paraded on stage. In this day & age it is almost imposable to fake a very rare Corvette. VERY SAD

I wouldn't call it fraud, just an attempt to snag a sucker. Misconceptions abound out there. Even if the car was judged at some point in the past, it doesn't mean the car would get the same award again on the day of the sale.

Is "NCRS" Copyrighted or Registered? I think it is, so now it's a matter of getting an attorney to write a cease and desist letter, but then we have to be prepared to file suit. Is this what we want? In addition, someone would need to monitor all of these auctions and sales to catch each of these.

The best course of action is probably to let caveat emptor play out. If a buyer doesn't care enough to become informed, why should we fund his lack of responsibility.

Roy has an excellent point here. It is unfortunate many like Mecum's just don't care about getting the cars right for the buyers, it is caveat emptor and they have no responsibility. I do wonder that, if Mecum bought all those 120+ cars from ProTeam this month, what they are doing and how will those cars be presented in the future.

Based on the way the car sits, it's 1 of 1...L88 in combination with 4 wheel drive.

Just my opinion, but I do think we have a responsibility to protect the integrity of "NCRS." The music industry went after just a few high volume offenders of their copyrights and made examples of a few people. It virtually stopped music piracy via file sharing software. I think we should do the same and start including trademark and copyright warnings on all our web pages and documents so that we can start going after a few of these fraudsters. If people know they are risking a lawsuit that will cost them a lot of money and possible criminal prosecution they'll be a lot less brazen in their fraudulent use of our good name.
