C4 Underhood paint

The underside of my hood is way below par for the rest of the car. Will a repaint cost me as much or possibly more than the condition points I'll lose without? If I repaint, what is the correct paint - I know, black, but what sheen? Any specific recomendations? Any suggestions how how to do the respray - in place or remove? Any help appreciated.

Jim, I don't know if you have tried taking a sponge and some simple green and washed the underside that sometimes helps, And then take some back to black by Mothers products. and it will put a low sheen on the black as thats how the factory underside looked. it may take some time to do the prep work as the C4 has alot of area under the hood, But generally looks great when finished. Ed

I still have a partial 11 oz. can of GM "low gloss black engine enamel" that I purchased from a vendor through their catalog years ago. It was a match to the underside of my '84 hood as well as the trunk lid on my '03 convertible. The part number is #12346296. Not sure if it's still available or if it might have been assigned a new number but it is definitely a match.

Jim, see the attached link which shows the original paint underside of my 96's hood. It's not quite flat, but it's close.

There are 6 originality and 6 condition points associated with the hood underside. Just how bad is the paint? How many O/C points have you lost during judging?
