    54 in park RPM

What is the correct RPMs for a 54 ( 6cylinder) in park? Owner's manual states 480 rpms in drive.

Not meaning to sound like I'm giving a smart alec answer here: I'd say the correct RPM in neutral and park is whatever will result in the specified RPM in drive. Seriously.

      Lynn,
If the engine idles ok at 480 rpm in neutral or park and doesn't stall when put in gear (L, D or R) thats where it should be set. Adjust as needed.
My 57 PG car idles around 800 -900 in neutral and drops down some when put in gear, as expected.

I wonder what the specified stall speed is for the convertor?

GM typically specifies idle speed in Drive for autos and Neutral for manuals. If you have your idle speed set properly in Drive, that's what you need for the PV. GM did not specify idle speed in Neutral or Park for autos, but it will typically be a few hundred revs higher than in Drive.

Lacking an OE spec for idle other than Drive, if a PV judge questions idle speed in Park, I would I would protest to the Team Leader.

A similar situation exists for the initial cold start idle speed. GM specfies the fast idle "hot", and it will typically be a couple of hundred revs lower on a cold start, so PV judges have to allow some latitude here.
