    Dropping a Tank

How hard is it to drop an empty fuel tank on a '65? I want to remove a former owner's partial rattle can painting of it (on the passenger-side) and install a new fuel gauge sending unit that is rusty and leaking. Also, the car's "squeaking/rattling" over bumps may be caused by a lack of anti-squeak strips on the tank.

        Clark -

On a coupe you'll need to remove the filler neck from the tank before rotating the tank down; not necessary on a convertible.

Thanks, guys. My car has side exhaust, so it sounds like once I drain the tank, disconnect the filler neck & the fuel line, and remove the spare tire carrier, it is straightforward to just drop the tank. I bet I can do this job, myself!

Clark, I would try and source a nice original fuel sending unit. I've heard alot of bad feedback on the Chinese fuel senders out there--leaks etc.
