    Doug:

I'm a mid-year guy, but the bolt headmarks should be listed/described in the 1969 Technical Information and Judging Manual. I would then check with Paragon for reproductions, and Richard Fortier for restored/replated originals. Richard advertises in the DRIVELINE.

O/k, thanks Larry. What is odd is at Paragon and Dr Rebuild they list intake bolt kits for big block 65 thru 68, but no listing for 69. E-Bay ads indicate the same thing.

Thanks John. So, ones marked A on the heads. Also, should the water neck bolts be the same marking?

A is one headmark. FP and TR are others. Do a search for "intake manifold bolts" to read what others have previously said. A lot of excellent info.....about 250 threads, with quite a few about the 1969 BB 400 HP.

You can also vary your search to see if additional information is available.

Interesting. My current ones are kind of grungy, but they do show TR marking. My car was built Jan. 25, 1969 and almost everything on the car looks original. If TR is correct I could clean up the old ones with a wire wheel.

Well, with my opinion and $1.85 you can buy a cup of coffee at Starbucks...

...but if you want your car to look like it was put together with a kit, go ahead and buy a kit but that is not typical factory appearance. Also the current repro "A" bolts I have seen do not look like the originals - the "A" is not the correct size. A typical original installation would most likely have a mixture of bolts, especially when the length of bolt differs. TR's are common at the lifting eye on BB's. As stated above, all of this has been stated in other threads many times.

I wouldn't take a wire wheel to the bolts unless you plan on sending them out to be replated. A wire wheel will remove what little finish you have remaining and they will start to rust immediately.

                Just by 2 cents worth...

Thanks Floyd. Well, I pulled the intake bolts and they are all the same length, so I guess they are wrong anyway. I may have to get the A bolt kit if that at least gives me the correct lenghts.

                    Doug,

If you are planning on having the car judged, I would work on collecting a set of original bolts. It sounds like at least some of your bolts are original. I have attached a picture of nice complete set that someone else provided. I have used this picture as a reference.

                      Hi Doug and Floyd

Floyd the pic you have with A and 3 lines non recessed head is for the 435 L71 L88 YOu have a bolt on the far right with a hole in the middle and that can be used for the engine lift on your car. But not for a 435hp car.
This pic of an FP bolt is from an early original unmolested 68 L68
The other pic of bolts with an A and 3 lines and I guess they call it recessed head (raised lip around it) is for 69 390 and 400hp cars. I recall long time ago that was on my 69 L68 but I didn't take pictures of it as I wasn't anal then.
                      Hope this helps.

Hi Grant, on this car, is the FP the marking that is consistent for all the bolts on the manifold or mixed with others head markings? Also, is the A marking bolt not accurate for a 68 400hp?
                        Best,
                        Pat

                          Hi Patrick
The early 68 L68 we judged I recall all the intake bolts were FP I was all nuts and bolts about that car. It was so original and of course it top flighted.
The A marking bolts can probably used an a 68 L68 but with the raised edge on the head as the picture above. The A with 3 lines and it is a large A. Do not be confused with the small A and 3 lines and raised edged on the head that was used for the Bellhousing.
                          Hope this helps.
