changing spark plugs on AC C2

Hate to ask again, but any tips on best way ( none look easy) to change plugs on my '67 factory SB. Driver's side OK. 6 & 8 look doable from underneath. 2&4 look like PITA. Roll compressor inward and come from top?,go from underneath while on rack?, special tools,? modification of plug socket? All help from those who have actually done it will be apppreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Try going thru the RH inner fender dust shield.

I just had to fix a leak on my 63 in the water hoses that run under the compressor. What a pain. I removed the pivot bolt on the side and loosened the front bolt. I then took some spare wire (12g) and tied the compressor to the alternator. This got it up and out of the way. Hope that helps.

        Left side is straightforward....no problems/issues.

Right side #2 and #4 best accessed by loosening AC compressor belt and rolling compressor forward or aft.
Right side #6 and #8 are easily accessed from underneath.

No special tools needed. I even torque all my plugs, which is still not any problem.

Recomend AC 45 plugs..........buy a set on Ebay for about $30. You may never have to change them again.

          Larry and Russ,
Thanks for replies. Russ, I've got a small block and 3's2&4 look to be toward firewall in relation to A arm dust shield. Does this suggestion apply to BB's? or have you actually done it this way on a SB?
Larry, sounds reasonable. Only thing, not trying to be a smart a--, but you said roll compressor "fore or aft". Do you mean roll it toward or away from valve cover to gain access to 2&4? Guess fore or aft could mean same thing if meant in relation to where I'll be standing.
          Thanks again

It really depends on the socket extentions that you have and the spark plug socket length. Sometimes it is easier to acces the plugs by pushing the compressor toward the engine (fore) and sometimes it is easier to pull the compressor back toward the fender (aft). Once the commpressor adjusting bolts are loosened (total of 3) and the belt is off, you can move the compressor easily in either direction to suit your needs. I think the fore position is probably the one you will want.

Also, just a word of caution, be gentle with the compressor hoses. After changing my last set of plugs, the compressor discharge hose connection at the condenser started leaking. Had to replace the old 0-ring and also the drier. The drier was not required, but the o-ring was. Either way it required a new charge of R12. FWIW.

When you're "in the hunt" mode, that hole is the ultimate confirmation that it came from the factory with A/C....

I haven't done it that way since some one recently clued me in on that method. He had done his that way but it was a BB. I don't know if the positioning of the plugs in relation to the fender is different or not between SB and BB

PS I see you are talking about a C2 were as my friends was a C3

William I bought my 64 convertible used with factory air conditioning in 1968. It had two holes niclely cut/drilled in the fenderwell that were inline with the two front plugs under the air conditioning compressor. Used spark plug socket and extensions on the ratchet to change plugs.
