    1973 head light console

I need help! The headlight warning light in the console stays on when the headlights are turned on. I do not know what would cause it to stay on. Should I replace the switch? Has anyone else had this problem.

The warning light is to indicate that one/both of the headlight buckets are not in the fully raised and locked position. Each bucket has a proximity switch underneath that goes open circuit when the raising mechanism is fully extended. The switches are fairly delicate and can break with age.

Thanks. I will open the lights and inspect the switches.

            Hi Kim,
            Here's 2 pictures from my 71.
It's the black plastic part in the center of the picture. They're quite fragile so be careful working on it. There's a 'button' on the switch which the 'link' (item # 15) pushes 'on' and 'off'.
Check UPC 12, Sheet A 2 in the AIM
            Regards,
            Alan

                  Hi Kim,
Yes, CC, among other venders, have them.
                  Regards,
                  Alan

Until you replace the broken switch, you can un-plug the broken switch and the headlamp indicator light will function correctly using the "good" side.

Shame on you Alan for continually posting pics of such filthy parts. As usual, stunningly nice. Fantastic job.

I don't think that is true. The switch closes when the headlight is fully up and is open any other time. Unplugging the switch will send an open signal to the light and it will light.

Those are stunningly clean, but I think the springs should be colored. I would have to do some research to see what colors, but the springs on the front are different colors than those on the back. One of them is yellow, and I think the other is blue IIRC, but as I said I would have to do some research to be sure.

Fair enough, whether exactly correct or not, I always marvel at how meticulously tidy all of Alan's "stuff" is.
