    Antifreeze

I have checked past posts and 85% recommend zerox G-05 and said it is light yellow in color. Just went to auto parts store and they have it but it is red in color. Where can I get the yellow stuff or is there any difference between the red and yellow.

Red is used for OAT blends like Dexcool. My last purchase of Zerez G-05 was from NAPA. It's a pale amber color - like what comes out after a couple of beers. It should be carried at most parts stores since it's recommended by Ford, Chrysler, and Daimler Benz for all their recent models.

Chrysler or MOPAR branded G-05 is pink in color. FORD branded G-05 is dark yellow in color I believe. The regular Zerex branded G-05 is a very light yellow, almost clear. Like Duke says, NAPA will have it or can order it for you. There is the full strength version and the 50/50 mix version. Your choice..........FWIW I prefer the full strength and then dilute with distilled water.

I probably shouldn't admit this, but .... I went to NAPA and didn't read the container closely enough and wound up with 50/50. I wondered why it was so cheap. It does work well for "make-up" doses though. :-(

It's healthy for experts to admit mistakes to their peer group... too bad politicians never do it, but then none of them are experts at anything other than BS.

                Duke,
My motivation was to keep others from making the same mistake I did. I do think it is no accident that the containers for full strength and 50/50 G05 are so similar.

I think they're all space aliens who are conspiring to destroy the US Constitution and our traditional freedom to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness with ever increasing government intervention in our lives, unrelenting attempts to confiscate more of our production through taxes and fees, and doing everything possible to block the development of new energy resources in order for them to ultmately take total control of our lives.

Did you hear Jerry Brown pontificate about high speed rail yesterday when he signed the legislation to sell about $8 billion in bonds to fund a 130 mile section in the central valley - the "train to nowhere"? (The legislation violates a basic provision of the propostion passed by the voters in 2008 - the money is only to be used for high speed rail - by diverting a third of it to "local projects", but who cares, they pull these kind of illegal sheanigans all the time.)

The guy is clearly from another planet.

Then there were the remarks by the president a couple of days ago - something on the order that if you started a business and were successful you didn't do it on your own... you gotta be kidding me. This guy is not from another planet. He's from another universe!

Terry - Yes, admitting our "mistakes" helps others to avoid same, which is what it's all about! How long do you think it will be before the government takes over NCRS?

I agree.....that is why I mentioned the "full strength" and the 50/50 mix. A guy needs to carefully read the container before buying to ensure they get what they wanted/needed.

Both will work fine. The price for a gallon jug of 50/50 mix is cheaper than the price for a gallon of the pure stuff; but based on the amount of ethylene glycol in the jug the price of the 50/50 mix is more expensive.

I have made this mistake more than once myself.

So how many of you are using the G 05 full strength or diluted in your vintage Corvette with vintage defined as those before 1983.

                            Tom,

I use the G-05 in my 63 and 67 vettes with no problems. Buy the full strength and get some distilled water at the grocery store and mix yourself, it's much less expensive than the diluted mixture.

I have noticed the price of the G-05 has increased some in the last few years. Going from memory, here in Md. I paid around 14./gal last year.

The 50/50 G-05/water blend that you can buy is convenient, but more expensive than buying a couple of gallons of "full stength" and a couple of gallons of distilled water, which costs about a buck-fifty a gallon at the grocery store to make your own 50/50 blend for a 16 quart system.

Antifreeze should never be used "full stength". You want to end up with a blend that is in the range of 50-70 percent full strength antifreeze and 30-50 percent distilled water.

I always buy "full stength" and distilled water to make my own blend and target a final blend of 50-55 percent antifreeze and 45-50 percent distilled water.

                              Duke
