    2003 head light actuator motor

The right actuator motor makes a chattering noise after closing the door. Lasts for 2 - 4 seconds. I think the motor needs to be replaced and if so is how difficult is its replacement. The motor is $250 to $300, but I have heard the gear can be replaced.

    Any thoughts.

Yep. Most likely the gear. http://my.execpc.com/C4/4A/rodney1/vettegears/

If you have removed and replaced the motor/gear is it as easy as they say? Just three bolts?

it could be the stops the limit the travel are out of adjustment from parts wearing.

Thanks Clem, Manually I can lowered the head light door. However, unlike the other head light door the manual turn down knob does tighten with firm pressure when the door is finally closed.

The door, in question, when fully closed manually with the knob and with the same pressure slips and become loose. Never really fully tightening.

          Any comments and thoughts?

there was a chevy dealers TSB about one year C-5 that the head light would not work properly and it required some shimming. i don't have it here but someone with access to the GM tech website can find it.

Haven't done the repair myself, but we replace lots of them in our shop. I don't believe the job is that bad. Pretty straight forward !

No big deal to replace the gear. I did my sons a few months ago. It took a little over an hour to do both sides.

also to prevent wear and tear on those gears never raise or lower the C-5 headlights while at speed because the wind resistance against them makes all the parts work harder. they are like sails in the wind when going up or down and the corvette is moving.
