    65 gold gas door

a friend of mine has a 65 gold gas door instead of the silver. he has had this door for several years. he has wheeled and dealed in vettes for years and kept this from one of the cars he sold because he thought it was interesting. he has done a little research in the noland adams book where it is mentioned but one has never been seen. so were these in production for a very short time and considered extremely rare?

    take care,

Yup -- extremely rare; I bought this one off eBay as it's the first and only one I've seen. Got it at a good price 'cause nobody else thought it was genuine. As has been mentioned by others, I believe it's probably due to the effect of the sun or UV rays on the chemical make-up of the silver. Seems to have affected only a small number of cars; definitely not throughout the '65 production run.

I had one that was part silver and part gold. It was pretty apparent that the gold was just the result of aging. I've seen others with varying degrees of a gold appearance as well. I don't think any were originally manufactured with the gold tint.

What's "funny" is that an NCRS judge would deduct some condition points for a "gold" filler door. Not Typical Production (NTP), and all that. But, it is attractive.
