    1954 Seat Cover Installation

    Hi
I am starting the installation of new Al K seat covers with what appears to be the most difficult piece, the drivers back. I have run into a major problem with attempting to secure the insert portion with the paper wrap wire that is attached to the frame and springs. The old ones were attached using hog rings and that is the only fastener that came with the install kit. I am using new foam and so far I can not get a hog ring around the seat insert wire thru the new foam and around the frame wire. All of my previous experience has been with C2's which used a spring steel clip. It may be that at 69 I'm just not as strong as I used to be.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Jeff, use 6-8" wire, fold over to make a large staple "U" shaped, angle cut ends to make sharp. Run through wire hem in seat bottom then run through seat bottom on each side of wire attachment. From bottom pull and twist wire (cerclage in orthopedics) will secure very well and close up well. Always works easier on thick material than hog rings.

      Lynn,
Thanks, I tried that today and it works great.

Are your hands sore yet? The seat cover restoration, windshield assembly and soft top assembly are the top 3 hard DIY restoration jobs. I bet it'll look great when done!
