69 Red Interior Steering Wheel Color

I have a '69 numbers matching, pretty well documented coupe (tank sheet, POP, etc.). It is well optioned with L46, 4-speed, air, PS, PB, PW, speed warning, etc. However, the lowest production aspect of the car is the red vinyl interior which I am restoring with Al Knoch materials.

The car has a red rimmed steering wheel. The judging manual indicates all vehicles had black rimmed steering wheels. It's possible that someone replaced the steering wheel but very, very few items have been replaced on the car. Does anyone have a '69 with red vinyl interior and a known original steering wheel who could confirm the color of the steering wheel?

Dennis, Maybe someone painted the steering wheel with interior dye. Maybe take a small area on the back side of steering wheel see if you can take a thumb nail and scrap some paint off. or even just look closely to see if there any black peaking somewhere.

I bought what I thought was a C3 wheel at a flea market for my 71 C10. After a few months, the black dye softened and revealed a light or bright blue colored wheel rim. I guess the same basic wheel was used in other GM products. A lace on leather wheel cover worked for the pick-up. It will never be judged.

This basic configuration steering wheel was used on other GM cars they did offer them in colors other then black that did match the interior color of the car. You may have a Buick wheel that had a red interior.
