C3 Rear Storage Compartment Restoration - Part II

Continuing with the mild makeover of the storage compartments in my '69... I have decided to freshen them up by repainting the interior of the battery and jack areas. My question is: was the battery hold-down hardware installed before or after the compartment was painted black. Currently, the unused hardware for UA6 in the jack compartment and the jack hold down hooks are all painted black. If the metal surfaces of the battery hold-down hardware was painted black, it's all gone now but there was a lot of battery corrosion evident.

On my 1970 all the battery hold down items are black, however, there are no shadows of those items in the floor of the ocmpartment. In the jack compartment the spring and its clamps are black and the UA6 mounting bracket(s) are black, but the wires and realys are NOT black.
