    Stamp pad picture, opinions?

My first thoughts were those are some very "NTP" broach marks, I thought the stamp looked legit but then the "1" in the assembly stamp caught my attention. I haven't seen that font in any other examples.

    Opinions?

    Thank you,
    Steve

The pad surface as well as the characters are not typical. I usually stay away from these threads but, this pad is pretty bad. It well could be a real car, I have no idea but, that pad's not typical. It isn't even close, IMO. If I judged that car, I would call the surface, assembly stamping and the vin derivative, even though I can only see two digits. Ray Charles would call that pad.

Ray Charles would condemn that pad.

I know these threads create a lot of "discussion", but it helps us rookies learn what to look for! I thought the pad surface was pretty obvious, but what in particular with the font stands out to you? I thought of course the "1", and also perhaps the "I".

It would help more if the posters would explain why they don't like the pad . Just posting a disparaging comment dosent help educate the forum members .

If you get a chance, attend one of Al Grenning's presentations on engine stamp pads.
It will be very educational and tell you a lot more than any of us can in one post on the discussion board.

I understand the comments about helping the less experienced gain more knowledge, I honestly do. Please don't take this the wrong way but, I'm not going to host a judging school here on the TDB. Others might...more power to them. If someone were OJ'ing with me at a meet, we would discuss this pad in depth.

The question was, is this pad real. My answer is, it is not typical. That's my opinion. Y'all come on out to a meet and we'll talk about this til the cows come home. I'll even buy you a cold brew after judging and we'll talk about it some more.

                      See ya around the campus,

I'm sorry, I guess I just can't understand why we can't discuss this example right now. I guess we don't want the info posted for the counterfeiters to learn from?

In some ways it's like the old definition of pornography - you know it when you see it.

As Mark noted, no offense to anyone intended but it would take a book to explain the nuances of a stamp pad and what is correct or not correct.
On this example the fake broach marks are not parallel. Knowing this, why look further into what is wrong? The rest of it doesn't get any better.

probably should have used 100 grit... or not stand on the sander.
looks over broached to me. most pads i have seen you have to focus to see the broach marks. they dont jump out like that. i know an any machining process when tools get dull and worn down the marks they leave will change. because of this, broach marks on a pad will differ. to me this looks a little too much. i cant say im sure the factory did not do that by looking at the pic but i can say i my vote is for probably not. if i were the judge looking at this pad, and thats not what i do, i would never make it as far as the characters on the pad.
