7.00-15 Goodyear Blue Streak Sports Car Special

Here are a couple of photos of these circa 1964 racing tires. There is additional discussion about them here:

I sold two sets of old magnesium American Racing wheels some time back, one set had the Goodyear Sports Car racing tires and the other had Firestone Racing tires. The tires had been mounted since sometime in the early '70's. I was scared of trying to dismount the tires.

I'm leary about mounting the Blue Steaks. I know the sidewalls are stiff as hell compared to radials, and I think I may be taking a chance on either busting a tire or the repro KO wheel.

Knowing how easy it is to break the lip on a magnesium wheel, and knowing how they deteriorate as they age, I thought it better to sell them mounted. The GY were on my L/88 when the fenders were flared and it painted in the Stars and Bars paint scheme. The Firestones were on the former owner's ZL-1 SCCA race car

That's probably the all time best wheel/tire combo for a C2, but how do they ride and handle?Duke

When I was but a kid I was the grunt on Dr. Blatchleys Grady Davis Gulf Research car. The same car that Rich Mason had.
My job was to unload all the blue streaks and then load then all up again on Doc's home made trailer. I thought it was cruel and unusual punishment being that I only got paid in hot dogs and Schmidt's beer.
Then I ended up with stacks of the 1/2 wore out blue streaks that Doc told us to pitch. Kept them for 15-20 years in my Dad's spare garage. I ignored Dad's warning that the Z06 parts (we never called them Z06) and the Blue Streaks were going to the junk yard unless I moved them out of his garage.
You heard this before and know the ending. All the tires and parts were scrapped. Except for boxes of NOS parts that ended up on my 63, the LWC.

Yeah...................the ones on my black car came off of an old Roger Penske Camaro (for real!!) and even though they weren't worn all that much, they were almost as hard as the limestone rock here in KY.

My NOS set is remarkably pliable and soft after nearly 50 years.

Tires harden with age, and the rate they harden increases exponentially with temperature, so even one heat cycle on a race track is equal to years sitting in storage.

Here is a picture of a set of Goodyear Blue Streak drag tires (16" by 12") on Crager wheels which I got with my barn find 57.
One is cleaned and aired up, the other is as is when found.

                              Rex,
and those sidepipe covers look like they're hiding something, too! What are you running for an exhaust?
