Only CZ and CX is right for rear diff al 4 speed manual transmission 1964 coupe?

I know of a axle code CJ 4 16 64 rear diff for a okay price but when i check my book it looks like only CZ 3:08 or CX 3:70 is for a 4 speed manual transmission

Is this right that only the CZ and CX is correct for a 1964 4 speed manual transmission?

Or is CZ and CX the non locking ones so that the CJ is a positraction for a 4 speed?

Can any here tell which date CJ 4 16 64 is?

Claus -- don't know which of the many books you are referring to, but yes, the CX (3.70) and the CZ (3.08), as well as the CA (3.36) are all non-locking (ie. positraction or open differential).

And CJ is a 3.08 with positraction. CJ_4_16_64 would be assembled on April 16th 1964.

The NCRS powertrain charts are the best source to figure out the permissable combinations of engine/trans/rear end.

I had a feeling that 4 16 was the date. Then i can not use the diff because of the date. The diff is made some months after my car left the factory.

The book i use is Vette Vues Fact Book 1963-1967
