Need advice on chasing down my orignial 396 block

Looking for advice on methods and where to begin looking for my original (OEM) '65 396 Block. I know this is a long shot and may never bear fruit, but I have to give it a try as I would really like to see the car get its original heart back.

I can be reached by either PM or email: fairwayj@gmail.com

Yep, I found my original L71 block with one of the ten previous owners, it was in 4 pieces in the back yard, needless to say it was left to rest in piece(s).

Last year I sold a 396 I had for 12 years (Duntov, Triple Crown Winner). From taking it all around the country and talking to people who are really into 396"s, it is as Clem say's. As you know they only made 2100 of them and from the get/go many people wanted to run them, as in their day they were quick. Many of them died either on the street or the track or Bubba tricked them out. So to find your engine will be very hard to do. I wish you luck.

Don't give up without a through search - the following sources might help -

Watch the NCRS Driveline ads every issue

Check ebay - search 1965 Corvette 396 Block or 396 Corvette Block

Watch the parts ads on the "other forum" there have been several 962 blocks posted over the past few years

              Check Hemmings as already suggested

Check the parts forums on the Camaro, Chevelle, Impalla & El Camino Web sites - you would be surprised at how
many parts were transplanted on these cars over the years

Last of all check some of the Drag Racing Sites for parts

You just never know what might turn up

You could also post a wanted ad in NCRS Driveline with your VIN number - who knows someone may have it stored as a spare

Best of luck with your search

              Carl
