    58 T-10 4 speed

Hi, took my transmission side cover off to install a new gasket, put it in second gear as told, is their a certain position the two 3 notch gears ( on inside of cover) are supposed to be in,( front and back) when putting it back on, top notch, middle notch or bottom notch, after cleaning I dont recall where they were positioned, sorry, thank you, Brad

The cover will only re-install with the levers in the correct detent position. So, line up the installed forks with the slider grooves and wherever the detents are at that point is where they need to be.

if the synchro sliders are centered on the hubs properly, the Neutral position is the one to use.

Guys, I did a trial run, found it hard to have the forks installed on the cover and get them ito place to go into the slot, so I tried the forks in place on the slots then brought cover up tranny raise each fork up seperatly and in the holes, put two bolts in hooked up linkage and all gears shifted fine, I then took it off to see the levers and the front lever was in the middle notch and the rear lever was in the top notch, is the key tht it shifted fine in all gears, and or when the cover is installed they adjust themselves? Thank you, Brad.

Typicaly all the sliders are set to the neutral position and the arms in the side cover set to the same position so the cover just falls in place. Saounds like you did it the hard way, but if it works, all is well.

Bill, are you saying that the cover will only go on if all is lined up?, and can it shift fine in all gears and levers be wrong? Thanks again, Brad.
