    Freeze Plugs revisted

I need a set of original freeze plugs for a 1958.

These are standard GM 1 5/8" steel welch plugs. I believe the original equipment plugs were manufactured by MD Hubbard Spring, Inc.

My rebuilder discarded what I believe were the original plugs before I could inspect them carefully for markings. I think these had no markings or logos at the bottom of the cup, but the block was so dirty from long storage in grease that I can't be sure.

Does anyone know what logo, if any should appear on these? I am certain current production plugs available from NAPA, Advance Auto, etc are not right because they all seem to have both the size and manufacturers trademark stamped in them.

These are available from Classic Industries but I suspect they are only correct for 1962 and newer. #G5082

I am rejecting brass plugs because a simple magnet test can detect them.

We always used the brass plugs. Properly installed, they will last the life of the vehicle. I don't think many judges are going to take a magnet to them. Don't give them any ideas .

any stamping marks can be filled in with epoxy and the paint will cover it
