    C2 horn problem

When I press the horn button on my '67 L36/C60, I hear a click-think it's the horn relay, but most times horns don't sound. What should I check-horn grounds, etc.?
    Thanks

Bill..You can check all the connections, but most likely it's the horn relay contacts. Remove the relay cover and file the contacts with a point file. There should be contact follow when you operate the relay. In other words when the contacts hit the second contact should move slightly. If it doesn't adjust accordingly..Bill

1 horn, start with grounds, 2 horns check relay first. Neither is a big issue if the horns will blow when off the car. No Blow horn test is more $$ to fix.

I had a similar problem on my 66. After eliminating the ground and relay as the problem, I ordered a horn rebuild kit from Long Island Vette. The kit includes gaskets, rivets, and diaphrams for both the high and low note horns.

Bill start with a test light at one of the horn wires to make sure you are getting power there first, The clicking does sound like the relay is working, but as Bill C. states the points may not be sending juice to the horn feed wires.

            Edward,
Where do I put the 2 leads of the test light. If no light when pressing horn button can't it still be relay as well as well as no juice to horn or do I not understand how to test if horns are getting juice? Horns do blow intermittently.Explanation will be appreciated.
            Thanks

OK, you should have a green wire connected to the relay. That wire feeds the horns from the relay If you put a test light between that terminal and a good ground, and have a helper press the horn button, the relay should click and the test light should light up. That indicates the relay is sending power out. Next, disconnect the horn connections at the horns, and using a jumper from the battery touch the +12 power from the battery to each individual horn. Each should blow with a lusty sound (different sound for each side) If not sound from one or the other, or both, the horns or the ground is faulty. The ground is thru the wiring harness via a ground wire attached to the rad core support, same thing the horns are bolted to. You can check the ground by testing a "Bad" horn with a good ground via a jumper cable connected from neg battery to the horn, make sure ground contact is good and just touch the horn brass terminal with the positive jumper cable lead. That should bring forth a loud sound. repeat for the second horn. If horns are both good, work backwards for improve power connection and ground integrety until you get back to the horn relay. If you can test via the harness at this point and the horns work then it's time for a horn relay rebuild/replacement.

Bill I had a recent problem during the Bloomington Gold Judging, when I left home everything worked. By the time I got there the horns and w/w didn't work. I found a broken wire to the horn replay due to corrosion, still working on the wipers!
