    Another Stamp Pad Picture

I know what I think of this pad. It's in a one owner 75000 mile car. The owner passed away and left copious notes on servicing and repairs. No mention of engine repairs. What do you think of the stamping? The VIN and Dates are correct.

Pretty sloppy and uneven looking, must be good. Broach marks not clear or maybe gone?

Looks to me like a engine overhaul and the deck has been broached. The #'s seem OK to me, only the factory machine broach marks are gone.

I'm no expert, but I see a few things that raise questions for me.The L in the date stamp is larger and appears to be stamped deeper. The vin stamping is inconsistent with the center 0 very faint and all other numbers deeper. If the deck was machined and broach marks were removed, then the block was stamped after machining because the steel is raised around the fonts. Maybe someone used some kind of wire wheel to clean the pad of rust and removed faint broach marks?

That looks like a factory grind out and re-number of a 66 L36 . There were a # of them done in the fall of 65 when GM re configured some passenger car engines and put them in Corvetts .

I would not buy based on this photo. Not enough detail to see broach's and finer details of the pad. Needs to be a higher resolution photo so that it may be enlarged

Hi Greg. I recieved this information from Al Grenning, He quoted the "Tonawanda Product Information Bulletin
of Sept 21, 1965 which adressed the cancelled "IHR" suffix engines .
It is known that discontinued engine assemblies were torn down, re-dressed and had the stamped info on the pad removed with a file . The blocks were re-introduced into production and showed up in L36 Chevys .
Mr Grenning has the Tonawanda Bulletin to back up this information.

L36 Chevy would not necessarily include Corvette, different suffix for Corvette. Agree with Dick W, picture is indistinct to draw conclusions from but VIN does not look to be stamped in a single application.
