    Car alarm

I am new to the NCRS. I have a 1967 coupe I purchased in April with a 1995 model 8046 Alpine alarm system. At the time it was installed it was probably state of the art. Now, it's in the way if I am trying to do anything behind the instrument panel for example replacing bulbs. The car is all original except for side pipes and has received two Top Flight awards around 1989 and 1992. If I were to eventually have this car judged, would the alarm system be an issue? I am a bit of a purist and am considering taking it out. Advice appreciated.

    Re: Car alarm

Hello and welcome to NCRS TDB, Steven. From the NCRS Corvette Judging Reference Manual (seventh edition, section 25):

" The following are allowed with no scoring deduction:
    A. Standard seat belt installation on 1953-1957 models.
    B. State or Federally required safety equipment , State required current inspection and/or registration sticker.
    C. Very inconspicious functional non-factory alarm system."

It goes on to discuss bonus points for NCRS decal, fire extinguisher and battery cutoff switch.

I hope this helps you with your question.

Like Don mentioned, an inconspicuous alarm takes no deduct. A conspicuous alarm might take a deduct of a point or two or three- really insignificant. The added-on side pipes would be a much bigger thing to consider.

        Hello,
Thank you very much for the information. I believe I will leave the alarm system in for now but move the alarm horn. They attached it to the voltage regulator. It would be completely inconspicuous if it were under the fender behind the washer bottle. I will also order a judging manual. Is it the "Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide" in the NCRS store? Does the manual have specific information on the type of extinguisher and cutoff switch?
Again, thank you for the information.

          Steve,

Yes, you want the Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide for your year. I would also recommend getting the Judging Reference Manual while you're at it. I believe the Reference Manual covers the fire extinguisher and cutoff switch. No particular brand or part number is recommended. That's what we're here for!

National Corvette Restorers Society! Judging Reference Manual - NEW Ninth Edition! The NCRS Judging System is quite complex- don't go in without a guide! This manual outlines all rules, procedures, and policies pertaining to NCRS judging events held world-wide, conducting an NCRS Judging School, Duntov Mark of Excellence Awards, McLellan Mark of Excellence Awards, Flight Awards, Performance Verification Testing,
