    Fuel pump for a '59

I need a fuel pump for a low horse option 59 vette, (maybe they are all the same?) or really only the part of the housing that has both the fuel line fittings and the cap bolts to with two bolts. if anyone has one i am in need of one as soon as possible, or info on where to find one soon, don't need a new one just somethin in good condition. besides ebay

    John,

The L58-62 Corvettes used an AC 4656 fuel pump. Are you looking for an original AC 4656 pump? If so, good luck if you don't have a fat wallet.
I have a new aftermarket 4657 pump (not AC) that I bought at a swap meet 20 or more years ago that can be converted in to a 4656 pump but removing the 10 screws and then rotating the bottom section 180 degrees. I also have NOS 3751824 mounting bolts (3/8"-16 X 1 1/8" with 7/16" hex head) but they do not have the correct head markings for 58-66 Corvettes.

I also have an original AC 4657 pump (not for sale) as well as a AC 4665 fuel pump (AC # 5594665, GM # 5621671 used on 58-66 Chev. trucks) which is the same as a AC 4656 pump except that the section with the inlet & outlet holes have to to rotated. I have had several NOS AC 4657 fuel pumps in the past and the instruction sheet indicates that it can be converted into a 4432, 4665, 4656, or 6559 pump. I believe that all of these pumps are the same except the rotation of the center section.

Who's making a reproduction? There's a service replacement available from Airtex that's a screw-together assy. But, it will lack the AC emboss on the bottom cover and at the top. To my knowledge nobody has stepped up to the plate for a GM Reproduction license to duplicate the pump's embossed aspects.

well, i was going to buy a service replacement, sorry to me its all the same thing. i realize they don't have the ac on top or bottom, but like i said before, all i really need is the center section with the fuel inlet/outlets. couldn't a guy buy the whole thing, and swap out the center section? there is 'AC made in USA' stamped real small on the flange between the bolts that probably wouldn't be there on a replacement, a lot less visible than replacing the whole pump.

              John,

I would think that the center section from an aftermarket pump would probably work with an original AC pump but I have never tried one. The O.D. of the center section of my aftermarket 4657 pump measures 3.83"+/-. The bolt circle (or screw circle in this case) measures 3.42"+/- as best as I can measure it.

i purchased a refurbished 4656 from Corvette Central about a year ago and it is very close to an original, close enough that I have not received a deduct after two rounds of NCRS judging. I think I paid $125 plus shipping. You pay for it and they place you on a waiting list and when pumps arrive they send them out in the order they were ordered. I believe there were running changes made to the 4656 fuel pump over the years and the one I purchased was a later 4656, not the model that would have come on my 1960, but very close. Main difference is the configuration of the boss areas where the screws thread.

I have never owned an original 4656 AC fuel pump but I have owned many 4657 AC fuel pumps ( 3 or 4 of them NOS, several used originals, and even a few that were used but rebuilt in the 70's or 80's). The rebuilt AC fuel pumps were usually made up of various AC components as indicated by the date codes and stamped AC part number on the flange. If you find a used AC pump stamped 4656 at a swap meet or Ebay it may not be totally original even though it may look original. I currently have a used 4657 AC pump with a center section where the center section has the small threaded inlet and outlet holes (obviously a mismatched rebuilt AC pump).
