Driving Points

I am trailering my Sting Ray by myself from Texas to San Diego for Flight judging. It would be great if I could drive it the last 100 miles or so and get those driving points. It might make the difference between a Top Flight and a Second Flight Award.

So, how best can I find someone in SE California that can (for a fee) drive my trailer and tow vehicle the last 100 miles while I drive my Sting Ray? Has anyone else done this?

I know some who have done it, generally enjoyed the experience. A wife, if available usually did the dirty work with the tow vehicle/trailer (not my personal experience)

Yep, that works well - unless you have construction on the PA turnpike and she suddenly doesn't want to navigate a wide trailer through the cement barriers.

Clark, technically you can park 1 mile away, drive a 100 mile route to end up at the event and count all 100 miles. You don't have to start the drive 100 miles away.
Just a tip.

Good comments, but just be careful, though when there is a will there is a way, don't cross the line like swapping correct air cleaner wing nuts, Dill valve stem caps, gas caps, voltage regulators etc....

The NCRS Road Tour is having their last night out at Fallbrook CA on the evening of the 29th and will leave there the morning of the 30th. I have no clue how far that is from the T&C Resort & Convention center, but I would wager you will find many willing folks at Fallbrook to drive your rig from Fallbrook to T&C. If that distance works for you, consider stopping at the Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook for the night. If they are booked up, and they might be, there are probably other motels in town.

Clark, be very sure you document what you do as far as diving because your registration packet is complete and loaded on a truck headed to California. Your registration was as a trailered car not a driven car. You will not be able to show up after judging is complete and claim you drove x number of miles, the change in declaration has to be made on your green sheet when you check in at the registration desk. Supporting documentation in your case since you have now changed your application would be a good idea.

Fallbrook is about 40 miles North of the T&C destination FWIW.

I remember that I put down "trailered" on my application way back in February. Only in the last few days have I thought about gaining some driving points. My 18 year old daughter is now accompanying me on this trip, so she will be able to drive the truck and empty trailer combo while I drive the Sting Ray the last 100 miles to San Diego.

I will plan on changing the "green sheet" when I arrive at registration. I cannot be the very first NCRS member to have changed their mind about this after submitting a registration. What I need to know, now, is what is acceptable documentation for that 100 mile or so drive? -Clark

Clark,

People change their minds all the time. Problem is as Roy stated, all the documentation is on the way to the Convention and NOTHING can be changed electronically. So, you need documentation showing when and where you started driving from. For instance, believe a toll ticket or gas receipt should be sufficient.

Other excellent documentation would be the speeding ticket receipt for going 120 mph in a 55 mph zone. That would have the VIN, town and arresting officers name on it.

Hahahahahaha! Now, that's a funny idea! A speeding ticket would show my name, the location, the Sting Ray being driven, and the date!
