She had two days practice in a Mazda over the weekend. I can't tell you how wonderful NCRS members are, but then you knew that.

Ever try to rent a manual transmission car? Can't be done in this country short of an exotic car rental. It ought to be an experience for her to convert Mazda 5-speed into the Corvette. I was reminded that the Corvette clutch is "low-effort, self adjusting."

Have a good trip, wish I could have made it, but too far from I-10 or I-40.

I hope everyone makes it. I know how the heat affects the older Vettes and occupants running all day. Are you driving the `56?

So you really jumped out there and took a chance with such an old car as a 2000 being the oldest in your tour?

                        Scott,

After a long day Saturday June 23 -- safe flights to Portland, Dennis Clark's most excelent cheauffer service, and several photo ops -- the PCH tour continues from May. We overnighted on 101 in Depor Bay OR. Heading south with a new Z06 pilot. Next stop overnight in Brookings OR (or some place like that). Nice not to need the nav system. Just keep the water on your right.

Woke up this mornong to the sound of bells on the bouys and sea gulls calling.

                        See y'all in California.

Wow quite the trip! I'm bringing my 54 from Riverside to San Diego on Sunday. Not the trip your taking but still a great ride.

You're going to be traveling through a lot of hot weather. If any vintage Corvettes have hot start problems due to fuel percolation, remember that this is a "flooded" condition - a mixture too fuel-rich to ignite.

In this event used the "flooded engine" starting procedure in all the old owner's manuals. Hold the throttle pedal to the floor and crank. If it doesn't start after 5-7 seconds of cranking, give the starter a break for a few seconds and try again, BUT DON'T TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE THROTTLE. Leave if floored to avoid adding any more fuel from the accelerator pump.

With the throttle wide open there is not enough manifold vacuum to pull fuel through the idle system and not enough venturi vacuum to pull fuel through the main system. Cranking just pumps air through the engine, which will purge excess fuel vapor, and once the mixture leans out below the rich ignitability limit, the engine should start.

                              Duke
