1979 Chassis VIN Number Location ????

Hi All,

I have Looked on my Chassis to Find the VIN Numbers, but i have NOTHING Found.

Are they not on the Drivers side Slightly behind the #4 Body Mount ???

The Only Number i have Found was on the Rear Crossmemeber : 0 039 is this a Date Code ???

I don't know about the late 70's, but through the early 70's, you should find it in two places - on the top surface of the frame centered on the front edge of the #4 body mount bracket, and on the top surface of the main frame side rail, about 12" forward of the kickup.

I suspect this would be the last two digits of your VIN. I've seen this on a number of vehicles that I have been able to view from underneath. My 78 has E41...my VIN 90041. Pace Car VIN 00003 had E3; Pace Car VIN 06502 had E02. It was probably a method used by the factory workers to identify a particular chassis with a particular VIN assignment before it got married to the body...a chassis line practice.
