69 L68 valve cover removal and the windsreen door cannister...

    Hi,
I've been replacing a few things over the weekend and one of those jobs was refitting valve covers with correct reproductions, but i have an issue. I've searched the archives and manuals but cannot find any diagrams or instructions on how to remove the windscreen canister, to allow me to replace the passenger side cover. Can anyone help please?

On my L71 both valve covers can be removed without removing any other parts. Unbolt the R valve cover, lift both ends up until they just clear the rockers, bring the forward edge of the cover forward and under the hose that runs to the intake, then lift the rear edge up and bring the valve cover out. You will also have to clear the clip (if present) that retains the vacuum advance steel line. Hope this helps.

        Hi,
Tried what you said and no luck. The canister is the old coffee cup style and impedes the last 4-6'' of the cover. Can I undo the canister rod and just remove it rather than take the linkages off? Also, i have factory fitted air which makes it even tighter.

        Cheers

          Grahame,
Removal of the actuator is pretty simple so if it makes removal of the valve cover easier, do it. First detach the hoses front and back and take out the bolts and plastic washers that attach the unit to the bracket. Pull the unit forward and out of the bracket. Push back the rubber dust boot and back off the lock nut (if present) and rotate the unit to unscrew it from the connector. Reverse for installation. It might be a good idea to measure the expose threads before removal so it can be installed the same.
