Squeaky tach cable in my 65 L76

I have a squeaky tach cable in my 65. I know its the cable as I removed it from the tach and ran the engine... could hear the noise from the cable. My tach does not bounce (I had it rebuilt 10 years ago and have put less than 4k miles on the car since), but cable squeak driving me nuts. I bought a new cable and replaced the old one; it squeaks too. Thoughts?

    thx,
    Dennis

Going through the same thing with a '67.

Some reproductions cables are too long. I found LI Corvette makes the correct one for the '67. other cables were too long (several inches).

After replacing it - it squeaks. So far, the only thing we found was removing tension on the tach assembly stopped the noise.

I removed the cable from the distributor side and spun it with a drill - tach inside was fine, no noise.

We we pulled the cable on the firewall side up a little, the noise at the tach stopped. So, to me, this said we have too much tension or pressure on the back of the tach housing - only question is how to correct it ??

I'm hoping this stops after some driving and the cable heat cycles in the engine bay. I think the "gradual S bend" GM intended is hard to keep. Maybe modern materials are stiffer than the originals.
