    Stamp Pad Grind Out?

I have a 68 with a grind out on the VIN on the stamp pad. There are pictures in the archives. When ever I get a chance to look at a picture of a stamp pad, I am interested. The one in this picture looks like a grind out and re stamp, but it doesn't look as "neat" as mine, if that a word you could use here. Also my assembly stamp looks good, just a grind out and re-stamp on the VIN. This assembly stamp looks ragged to me.

Since at least the seller believes this is "the real deal" and since I am not a judge and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, I wonder what comments the members here might have on this picture

I really can't tell. What I am wondering is does it look like a grind out and re stamp that could have been done at the factory, or not.

I'll go one step farther by saying I have looked at a number of pictures of stamp pads that in the opinion of a lot of people "could be factory grind outs" and they all look alike. This one does not, to me at least. So my curiosity leads me to ask what others think.

        Rich,

        I'll play . . .

If the grind out was done at the factory, I would expect that the entire pad would have the same "patina" including rust. This pad doesn't. Based just on that observation, I would say that it didn't happen at the factory. But, I've been wrong (many times) before.

My opinion is worth what you paid for it

If it were a factory re-stamp, at least part of the reason for the re-stamp would be to make the engine recognizable
for warranty purposes.....I don't think that was achieved.
