    Rear Spindle Supports

While working on my early (Nov 64 ) 1965 trailing arms, I notice a difference in the size of the lower end of the spindle supports. They are both the 3820643 castings. The right side was dated E74 and measured 1 7/32 inches and the left was dated C124 and measured 1 1/2 inches. I thought at first the larger one was a 1975 and up but that is NOT the case. Those are casting number 348103 and measure about 1 3/4 at the lower end. Wondowed if anyone had noticed this smaller sized end in 1963 or 1964 rear spindle supports. This might indicate that there 4 different style spindle supports. The 1963 without the web, 1963 & 1964 with web and small ends, 1965 thur 1974 with the 1 1/2 inch ends and the 1975 and up with the 1 3/4 ends.

I was not aware of this. However, I can tell you that there were never 4 sets of finished part numbers for the supports. In fact, there was not even three sets. The 63-74 was one set of part numbers and the 75-82 was another set of part numbers. So, any changes such as the "webbing" and, presumably, the different size ends must have been handled as a revision to the specifications for the casting.

Another original '64 rear: probably from a January car. (4.56 diff is CF_1_3_64)
L_7_3, GM 2; A_6_4, GM 7; both part # 3820643N with webs. Rough eyelet OD measurement on both is 33mm (1.299"); definitely not 1_1/2".

My 1963 Chevrolet Parts catalog (Oct. 1962) lists GM # 3820643 & 3820644 as the part numbers for the supports. My 1972 Corvette Parts Catalog lists the same part numbers for 1963-1972 Corvettes. I do not have a 1973 or 1974 Corvette Parts Catalog.

The 1973 and 1974 editions show the same part numbers. 1975-82 used GM #348103 and 348104 which became SERVICE for 63-74 in, respectively, January, 1977 and May, 1976.
