Re: Radio
Let me guess: For many years (thanks to eBay) I used to note the 81FSx-aaaa tags (where x is a letter A to F, then jumping from, I to J, and the a's are digits 0001 to 9999) and X-check them with the ink stamp on the DS-501 output transistor (on the back fins) [yyww]. A pattern emerged, allowing me to estimate that (based only on your tag, not on your transistor) your radio was assembled in 1966, somewhere around the 50th week) ie. installed in a '67 Corvette. Can you read the red ink stamp on the transistor ? Could be like "6650", plus or minus (say) 10 weeks, depending on component inventory.- Top

Re: Radio
Morris -- before you thank me, I think Harry is correct --- I'm out by a year. (too many numbers to examine); at least thats my excuse. In fact I have a 81FSC-9134 with a DS-501 of 6540 on my shelf. This is only 1805 units before yours. And the output transistor is dated 40th week of 1965. So I should have said "6550" as an estimate of ink date on the DS-501, which puts it in the VIN range that Harry mentions (not in a '67 model). Sorry, guys.
In fact, here's another that I missed (even closer to yours) in my lists: 81FSD-0063 with a DS-501 of 6546.- Top

Re: Radio
Harry: I agree with your 81FSE, but the two examples of 81FSB's that I have (as well as all the FSC's that follow) point to early 1965 DS-501 dates. Eg: I have the radio from VIN 10198 with FSB-0106 and transistor 6506. Another is 81FSB-5415 with a 6513 transistor (car VIN unknown).- Top
