The currently available GF 90 fuel filter from Corvette Specialties has what I understand to be the correct fittings with no notches, but is painted silver, and not zinc plated. While there are zinc plated filters available on Ebay,etc., I've not been able to find a plated filter without notches. Is one more acceptable for judging than the other? Also, I've had some issues with the fittings leaking on the Corvette Specialties filter. Any suggestions for resolving the leaking would be appreciated.

Leo, You want a painted silver/red ACGF-90. Not a bare zinc one like AC sold told the end. Those were service replacements.
My favorite Silver/red filter is a NOS one in the orange/black/white box. Comes with two fittings for your 62. Part number on the box is 7017219 They typically have a slight hint of a notch on the hex. I don't know how they judge but that's your call.
Fittings leaking you say. Try some Loctite 545 on the fittings and they won't leak. Use it sparingly and hold back about two threads with the 545. Not available in auto stores but readily available in most Industrial Tool supply companies.
I have not had any issues with the repro filters. Maybe others here can comment. Thanks, John- Top

What do you think of this GF90, John ? One of two I bought while on vacation in Hawaii, in the early '80s. The GM dealer was going out of business. The chromed inlet fitting has a row of Weatherhead symbols on the other side. I saved only the end tab from the (otherwise) plain box.Attached Files- Top

Wayne, That was a rare fine even in the old days. Neat filter for sure. The dealer must have had that one in inventory for a long time. Thanks for the nice pic. John
P.S. The real fittings were chrome plated weatherheads. I tried to tell some of the guru's here that I have seen my share of nickel plated ones but the info didn't fly.- Top

Yeah, we discussed that JD. Sounds like I finally convinced you that the fittings were indeed chrome plated.
Actually, they were nickel plated, then chrome plated. The fittings were not at all smooth or polished before plating which is what makes the finished product look a tad fuzzy.- Top

Actually I typically listen to what you report Michael. From your vast collection of photos, including all the ones from the St. Louis assembly line, you have shown us details that have opened the eyes of many.
Buttt why is it I see so many nickel plated 90 degree fittings?. When I remove these fittings there is no sign of chromium on the threads. I once worked in a chrome plating shop in Somerset, PA in the late 60's. So I know the procedure of chrome plating.
Do you think some of these fittings could have industrial nickel on them Michael?. Nice thing about the nickel is it doesn't seem to flake off and end up in the FI unit like the chrome fittings.- Top

The GM print for these fittings calls for nickel-chrome plating.
So does the GM ECR that was sent when the early 63 non chrome fittings were changed to chrome for the remainder of 63-65.
I still have a few original chrome fuel filter fittings and they definitely look like chrome over un-polished brass. Just a bit fuzzy.
By the way, (and I know you know this) although the 63-65 AIM's call for the same chrome fitting used at the outlet of the fuel filter to also be used at the fuel meter inlet of FI units, it didn't happen that way. The fitting at the Fuel meter wasn't chrome.- Top

Michael, As you know the fuel meter intlet fitting was zincad plated steel. So many of the repro line kits contain an extra chrome fitting that some end up using on the fuel bowl inlet fitting and that would be incorrect as you stated.- Top
