Lase fall at the Lone Star regional I attended Tom Ames' presentation on paint and after the seminar was over a few of us hung around to talk to him. At that time he mentioned the "correct" size flake that he thought was still available from PPG. Does anyone out there remember the size. Or, Tom,if you're listening. ( hint hint).

Re: C3 metallic flake size
Kurt,
Attached is a picture of a color swatch and sleeve I picked up at a swap meet a few years ago. I thought it was neat because I have a Bridgehampton Blue 1970, and this seems to be my color (#979). Not sure of the authenticity. The painted swatch physically shows the flakes, but no specific mention of flake size. I though maybe some of the numbers on the sleeve could help in your research. FWIW.

Re: C3 metallic flake size
If you have a paint jobber that is willing to work with you you can use a finer flake than PPG furnishes. The House of Color has a wide selection of flakes available. http://bit.ly/KJnKl8Dick Whittington- Top

Re: C3 metallic flake size
DuPont has the correct flake sizes. The finest flake is 810j, medium flake 811j. The medium flake is usually mixed in small amounts with the fine flake and usually seen starting with the c3's. Some earlier colors may use it also. Check the formula for the color you want and make sure it has the appropriate flake size. Some of the colors are not available because the tints are obsolete so they put the color in the computer and select the closest match possible from current color data. Expect to have to custom tint to get an accurate color.- Top
