    just a couple of question on my 69 427 400

    Hi,

    I've just had my Tri Power carby's rebuilt back original spec's and i have a few questions:
    1. Are the Carby to manifold gaskets all the same? (see pic 1 purchase from Cranes, Pic 2 from a local Ozzie Holley supplier, Pic 3 the ones fitted when i took the carby's off)
    2. How many studs are fitted to the manifold for the 3 carby's, and if there are any bolts where are they fitted?
    3. Was there ever a idle solenoid fitted to L68's? I've check many books and manuals but it is not stated clearly if this model has one.

    Sorry, but one other question on the decals on the chrome rocker covers:
    Where are the engine code stickers (yellow and black) located? Are they on the passenger's side on the top rear of the cover? I can see from images that the Tanowanda sticker is at the front, but can't see the others.

    If anyone has any images for the gaskets and the decal, that would be very helpful.

    Cheers

    Grahame

    Grahame: On the yellow ID label, it goes on the rear of the passanger side (rt.) valve cover perpendicular to the firewall. On the carb bolts/studs. The rear end carb left side has the bolt in the forward mounting hole to add clearence for the accelerator cable bracket and the center carb has the bolt in the left side rear mounting hole to clear the fuel line. If interested I also have either a NOS or a what I believe is a near perfect repro of the air cleaner lid foil label.

      1) If you mean were the carb-to-manifold gaskets the same for all 3 carburetors, the answer is yes;

      2) All of the carb-to-manifold fasteners were studs except the driver's side rear fastener on the forward and center carbs. Those 2 positions used bolts;

      3) If the car is equipped with air conditioning and 4 speed transmission, then it was originally equipped with an idle control solenoid. If it was not equipped with air conditioning and 4 speed, then it probably did not have such a solenoid but it's possible it was so-equipped.

      The 2 alpha-character yellow engine code label was applied to the rear vertical surface of the passenger side valve cover

        All three gaskets are the same. The one's you show from Cranes are correct. To seal correctly the center carb gasket is flipped over when compared to the end gaskets.

        Attached is a picture to show the placement of the engine code sticker.

          Thanks John,

          Which is the correct side for the valve cover with oil filler cap? I've seen some contradicting pictures in the books i've got and just wanted to make sure i get it right. I purchased chrome reproductions from Cranes.

          One side of the gaskets is a different texture so im guessing that you mean turn it around rather than flip over? Is the way i arranged the gaskets in my picture correct for other than centre carb?

          Cheers and thanks again.

                The valve cover with the oil fill goes on the passenger side (USA). I don't remember if the center carb gasket is flipped or turned around, but it's one of those two.
