I recently replaced the oil pan gasket on my 63 and while the starter was out I replaced the aftermarket solenoid with a tested original rebuilt. After installation I tested to see if the starter would turn over. It would not even make a noise just dead silence. However the lights dimmed when attempting to crank and the oil guage needle buried itself until I let off the key. If I'm correct this tell me the starter is good. I ran a jumper from the battery cable post on the solenoid to the "s" post of the solemoid and had spark. I'm stumped and dont know what to try next. Thanks in advance.

Re: 63 will not start
ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS A BAD BATTERY CONNECTION OR A LOW BATT.
Also check that the heavier wire is on the S terminal of the solonoid, I think it's purple?
Just a few simple things to check before taking things apart.

Re: 63 will not start
Thanks for the reply. I have checked and tested everything i can think of. I just removed the rebuilt original solenoid and installed the after market unit I had on the vehicle and it started right up. So the new solenoid I purchased is no good. Wew. At least it is figured out.- Top
