69 parking brake console slider & bezel install?

    O/k, probably dumb questions.

My 69 parking brake console, I'm ordering a new slider, does it have a slit to slip it over the parking brake lever or do I have to cut a slit somewhere?

And, the bezel that goes between the parking and center console, that small filler piece, do the side clips clip to the center console rear or somewhere on the parking brake console?

    Thanks.

    Hi Doug,
The 'slider' needs to be slit to get it over the handle. The track holds the slit closed one the slider is installed.
Check the slider before you put it on. The opening in it has a front and back that matches the contour of the e-brake handle.
The 'tangs' on the insert slide into slots in the front of the e-brake console.
    Regards,
    Alan

PS: My original (71) slide is slit on the driver's side of the opening. I don't know if that is/was typical or not?

      Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info. Now, on the insert with the tangs, in checking it appears the tangs slide onto the rear of the center console (which is notched out and fits the insert shape) rather than the front of the e-brake console. It just hit me in looking at it again today and it did slide right onto the rear of the center console. Is it possible that the 69 is different than the 71 insert?

      Thanks again.

      Doug

        Hi Doug,
I looked at pictures of 68 and 69 shifter consoles and e-brake consoles and it appears to me that the 'insert' can only slide into the front of the e-brake console.
I may be mistaken since obviously you're looking right at the parts.
This is off the wall, but... isn't that spot on the rear of the shifter console, solid, (to the rear of the shifter plate), and right where the famous L-88 WARNING label was placed?
        So?
        Regards,
        Alan

I am assuming my console pieces are original items, 72,000 mile car, and the rear of the shift console has a female notch, about 1 1/2 inches, and the insert tabs slide on and the insert falls neatly into that female notch. When I then lay the e-brake console on it's front falls against the insert other side, and seems to fit very neatly also.

            Hi Doug,
The 1969 AIM on UPC 1, Sheet E6, shows the insert installed on the front of the e-brake console as Alan described.

Not good at posting pics, but above is an example of what my shift console looks like, and the notch where the insert slips onto.

So, you guys are correct I think, so maybe my pieces are after market, but the above pic is how mine appears. Best Regards,

                  Doug

                    Hi Doug,
That's the way the console should look.
That 'flange' slips under the e-brake console and around the 'insert'.
The 'notch' disappears when the shifter console and e-brake console are installed, (pushed togther). The 'notch' allows everything to nestle together.
I think you'll find all is well!
                    Regards,
                    Alan
