    More questions on 1957 rewire

I am now working on the back harness. I have been looking at the way my harness is routed and find it hard to believe the harness passes up the trunk side of the fender well and disappears into the cavity. I know where it comes out in the dash area, ie-up from the rocker panel but where does it enter it in the back? If anybody has a trunk picture that shows the routing it would be helpful. I have the AIM but the routing is not clear to me.
    Thanks in advance
    Ted

it leaves the trunk area above the left wheel well housing, drops down in the area of the gas tank fill tube, then enters the cavity below the sill plate area to exit thru a hole inm the door hinge pilar behind the kick panel. mike

Mike is correct on the route. The most difficult area to penetrate is the cavity between the Tank compartment - and the Trunk / over the rear wheel well. This is because Chevrolet packed this port with a very gummy caulk. I had to make a probe (piece of dowel) and push the caulk out little bit by little bit until the passage way was clear before I could get any new wire through. If you look in the left wheel well near the top you will see a notch in the surface, this is where the passage way is its narrowest. If you cannot clear the port this is where you can breach the area to assist you in getting the wire through. I have never had to do this but I have threatened to many times. It's an easy area to repair if needed. Count to 10 and Good Luck !!

i've replaced the rear harness(left side) in our two 57 vets and it was not A big problem with caulk blocking the route. however, last year i had to replace the coax antennae(right side) on our 55 vet and the route was blocked by bonding agent that required removal to install the new coax. way tougher than dealing with caulk.mike
