    Hardtop trim screw

Anyone know what type of screw part no 9422102 is?

This is a hardtop trim screw at the base of the upper rear window trim, which is shown as an added item in the 67 AIM, C07, A6, item 24. It is shown as added to the AIM on 2/8/67.
My AOS 67 hardtop never had this screw as there is no hole in the frame for it, although there is a hole at the base of the upper window trim.

Back at it on by hardtop project, and I really see the need for this screw with new weatherstriping on an original window.

    Jerry,

Good news on this one, it is also used on 1ASM-F19, item 10 (windshield garnish molding, coupe AND convertible), so that should show you what it looks like. It is described in the 67JG as a chrome Phillips screw, p. 30 & p. 32.

        Gene,

        How long is that screw.

I took out the windshield trim screw that Scott pointed out (Thanks Scott for looking that part number up in the AIM), and I found a #8 Chrome Round Head beveled phillips SM screw but only 5/8" in length.

So I tried a 3/4" one I had. It doesn't seem to even get past the window wheatherstriping and I have nothing to hold it in.

Was there some kind of a speed nut and longer screw on yours.

          Jerry,

I don't recall any speed nut, and none is called out on 1ASM-F19, unless maybe it screws into the center hole in Item 9 Bracket (it has been a while since I looked at it).

The screw is #8-18 x 1", type AB tip (pointed), Phillips oval head, chrome finish. The head measures approx. 9/32" O.D. which I think corresponds to a #6 head.

I Hope you are well my friend...Top looks great. It's been a couple of years since I restored my hardtop, but from memory Scott's correct in that I think that phillips screw went into the triangular bracket in the middle of the hardtop...I will look for some pics tonight that i took of my restoration of my hardtop and if anything is there that can help you, I will shoot you some pics....Regards....Keep in touch....ARA

              Re: Hardtop trim screw

              Ara,

Nice to hear from you. I think we have identified the screw which attaches the front chrome windshield moulding to the painted moulding on a 67 convertible or a coupe. It has the same part number as the one I'm looking for, but the one on mine is shorter at the location. Other front moulding screws on mine are the same as Scott indicates, so the one on mine could have been easily switched.

The length of the screw I'm looking for, is the screw which goes through base of the upper rear window trim on a 67 hardtop, both sides. The shorter screw (5/8") from my front moulding would only go through the weatherstripping and practically do nothing.
The longer screw per Scott's description would go through both the rear window weatherstripping and the aluminum rear bow of the hardtop, if it were drilled. My original hardtop never had this screw, nor was the rear bow drilled for it. But I can see the need for the screw as it would hold the base of the trim very nicely against the weatherstripping. So--, it is a question of "to drill or not to drill" an original part.

Any experience you have with this hardtop screw will be appreciated. I'll buy a few next time I see you.
